This chapter was very interesting about books that give out information and helps inform people about things.
I was interested that the book features a section on dinosaur books. I find that looking at nonfiction books with lots of pictures is an activity that includes all levels of readers and students like to do it together with a high level reader doing most of the reading of the text. I have always tried to use informational books as additions to which ever subject I happened to be trying to learn. That way I have more than one source to go by and just rely on the Internet. Teaching math or science is great but having other book to reinforce the materials being taught help children see it differently. It will show them that there is more ways to learn about math or science or anything. You need to explore your child to more things. This chapter really helps discuss how you can learn about the human or animal body. Informational books are greats ways to teach children.

ch.11
I really enjoyed this chapter dealing with biographies because these are my favorite books to read. I just love reading about another person's life and what they enjoyed doing.Teaching With Biographies it mentioned that children would rather read a biography than a textbook which really interested me. I really do believe that because children like to know about people of the past and one's who have shaped the world. The history of biographical writing is much like that in the world of art where everything started by a person who mastic times. Children's stories and biographies of the 17th - 19th centuries were used to teach religious and moral lessons. During the 60's and 70's critics and educators felt that biographical subjects was not the best for child development. Still to this day government or people of power don't believe in education kids about religion in school. Time lines are a great way for kids to learn and know what happen at certain times in the past. Some people read biographies to preserve the person overtime because they can't let go. Some books can be motivational and discussions for people that will enhance them about a person or subject.

ch.10
In this chapter we are talking about historical fiction. These type of books go back in time and tell stories of our ancestors. They will give you a chance to think about what it was like back in the old times and where you come from. This book does talk about the slain using by younger generations and how they can pick up bad habits from reading these historical fiction books. I think the best way is to expose kids to good grammar so they will be use to it and speak it on a regular bases. In describing the characterization, the text discusses that concept that actions, beliefs, and values of the characters should be of the historical time in the book. Historical fiction presents the readers with a story that takes place during a notable period in history, and usually during a significant event in that period. Dealing with historical fiction these stories are coming from people's point of view living in that time. If gives readers an ideal how certain societies acted back then in certain places. You will be able to see the similarities between the present and past. I particularly like the part that states that historical fiction allows children/readers to judge relationships and realize that their present and future are very much linked to the actions in the past. I was told by older people that the things we do now they did almost thirty years ago and that time was just passing by again.

ch.9
Contemporary realistic fiction is very good in this chapter that something is not real but might can happen. These stories tells the real life of some people and describes the setting, plot, and timing. These type of stories deal with everyday problems as well as pleasures and relationships. I think this type of literature gives teachers a great tool to address real life situations in the classroom – thing such as death or divorce, instances that will very likely affect each and every student. These stories always have some type of controversial issues such as sexism, sexuality, violence, and profanity. Contemporary fiction can develop students personal beliefs and morals by deciding how they would have handled the dilemma faced by the main characters in the story. These stories deal with real life things that can happen so children can look and say that they don't want to go down that path. They can also say that they like that life and choose the wrong path. So these types of fiction can be good or bad. The African culture speaks a lot about situations and problems that will occur you young children in their culture that I like. All culture have different plots or some kind of situation that they will have to deal with. I am trying to say is we all need to watch out for the children because our parents today are having problems with raising children properly. There aren't many Big mommas' out there to deal with the discipline today and tell the kids of the struggle of yesterday that plagued their ancestors. You have to have an appreciation for these types of stories because of the story lines in them.
ch.8
Poetry is a way for a person to express themselves and tell a story of how something that might have happened. Most of all poetry is written with rhythm, form, and meter in one whole. A lot of emotion is expressed in poetry because sometimes people write when they are sad or happy. Poetry is an easy way for kids to learn how to put words together. Poetry attracts the children and also appeals to their emotions going through all the stages of life. Sometimes poems give hope to people when they have failed or feel like all hope is gone. Their are many types of poetry around the world like ballads, limericks, and concrete poems. The chapter states that sometimes poems are easier to relate to thing stories or books. Rhythm, rhyme, sound patterns, and repetition are the criteria for poetry. Some poetry are about dreams that people are trying to remember. The arrangement of poetry is very important because it might change the whole style of the poem. Poems can be read or listen to from a recording that will appeal to all people.
ch.7
This chapter is very interesting dealing with modern fantasy. This type of material of books help to develop the imagination of a child. Dogs with wings, People who fly and jump off buildings, and animals portrayed as important people that help make the story more interesting for the kids. Interesting stories helps kids want to read more and also might help them choose to be a writer one day. One book can derive art projects, discussions, reports, role playing, and other sorts of activities that portrays what kids like. All stories have a time, place, setting, and plot that's what makes a story. It was interesting and I never thought about a book as a place for a teaching tool like this before. This books shows kids curiosity for things and also show them the rules and variations of the world. Dealing with modern fantasy animals and toys are becoming real life things and make you feel like your toy can really talk to you. This chapter explores where someone or something is on an adventure to find something or looking for help. I think Harry Potter maybe one of the most famous books dealing with modern fantasy.
ch.6
This chapter was very interesting with traditional literature. The tales, folktales, myths and legends are very fun to read. For they are part of American and world stories that all people like. The folktales are stories of adventures and also they make objects and animals seem really real. Th myths are very interesting because big movie companies are turning these stories into movies every year. Legends sometimes still believe are real and think that these people were greater than God. As the chapter says that these type of stories interest kids to make them want to write. Using real human struggle and aspects of understanding the world around you will make good stories. I really liked this chapter in dealing with traditional literature. It really broke down in the past what went into children literature. Literature has changed a little from traditional literature. The chapter really shows how all the cultures around the world played a part in literature.
