ch.3

Ch.3 is about evaluating and selecting literature for children. You should have objectives when choosing these books. One of the first one’s is choosing something that will interest the child. If you are trying to balance life and enjoyment in your child’s life then you need to include them. I believe that children should be exposed to different culture of literature. Plot is another good reason to choose literature for children so they stay interested. At a young age they like simple plots and themes, but as they get older they want more complex plots. Having conflict is a reason that everyone and especially kids love literature. Styles of books can sometimes not be appropriate for certain age groups. They can be inappropriate by the pictures or the words being to complex for younger kids. Every age group has a different development stage so they prefer different types of literature. I feel it’s very important that you choose a book that a child can read and not stumbling over words. The main thing in this chapter is to involve children in the choosing of books if you are a teacher or parent. Ultimately they are the ones who have to read the book and enjoy it.
